Lacewing Vineyard
With views of the Columbia River and Mt. Hood, Lacewing Vineyard is a gem. We started working with them in 2020 when we sourced a small amount of Pinot Noir. Starting in 2021 we were able to start sourcing all of the fruit from the vineyard which includes Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer. This vineyard is 54 years old and its Pinot Noir vines are the very rare Mariafeld Clone which is known for vigorous production and ample acidity. When you walk the vines you also find ample fruit trees, flora and fauna, and wildlife.
Because of the Oregon fires, our Pinot Noir became 2020 BBQ Wine. We decided to embrace the natural expression of the grapes even though there is a detectable smokiness. Surprisingly, this experimental wine is quite enjoyable and complements the charred flavors of grilled meats and veggies. We hope it's a successful approach to smoke-tainted grapes that is beneficial to growers and sustainable for the future of winemaking on the West Coast.
