With views of the Columbia River and Mt. Hood, Lacewing Vineyard is a gem. Last year we sourced a small amount of Pinot Noir and this year we are fortunate enough to be expanding into Gewurztraminer for the 2021 harvest. This vineyard is 54 years old and its Pinot Noir vines are the very rare Mariafeld Clone which is known for vigorous production and ample acidity.
Last year, because of the Oregon fires our Pinot Noir became 2020 BBQ Wine. We decided to embrace the natural expression of the grapes even though there is a detectable smokiness. Surprisingly, this experimental wine is quite enjoyable and complements the charred flavors of grilled meats and veggies. We hope it's a successful approach to smoke-tainted grapes that is beneficial to growers and sustainable for the future of winemaking on the West Coast.
